Board hears December budget compliance report; donations and van purchase discussed

Matt, a staff member reporting to the Walworth County Children with Disabilities Education Board on Jan. 22, presented the December departmental budget compliance report and updates on donations and planned purchases.
Matt said categorical aid revenue was at 72.52 percent of expected revenue for the budget year and that two final payments were expected in January and February to reach the anticipated total. He said Medicaid reimbursements exceeded budgeted expectations by 5.29 percent because more students were Medicaid-eligible and receiving services.
On donations, Matt said the school received an initial payment of $83,500 from the Care Foundation in December and a second payment earlier in January (amount not specified in the meeting). He also reported an unrestricted donation of $478.13 from the Wisconsin State Council, Knights of Columbus, Saint Patrick’s Council 3464. Matt said the donation totals currently show donations at about 206 percent of budgeted expectations, driven largely by the Care Foundation payment.
Matt said expense categories were generally within budget and that utility costs paid to date were about 79.35 percent of the annual budgeted amount, with final payments expected. He said payroll savings from unfilled positions were offsetting higher-than-budgeted hires.
Matt said he had a preliminary meeting with Vijay from the Department of Public Works to discuss plans for purchasing a van for the school using the donated funds and that DPW was taking initial steps toward procurement. No formal purchase approval was recorded at the board meeting; Matt said further details will be placed on a future agenda.
Board members thanked staff for making the budget report a recurring agenda item. The board set its next meeting for Feb. 19, 2025.
