The action moves the nomination into the public-notice stage, where the commission will hear public testimony and then vote on designation at a subsequent meeting.
Heather, Planning Department staff, presented research and supporting materials for the nomination, summarizing documentary evidence that dates the building to about 1888 and describing archival sources used in the application package. She told the commission the application includes survey material and maps and suggested including the survey map that applicants Tom Botsberger and Anissa submitted to help future tax-credit applications.
Commissioners praised the property-inventory form as thorough and recommended that the commission schedule a public hearing. "I think the property inventory form looks really good. I think it serves as a good example for future ones," said Historic Preservation Commission member John Sampen.
The commission set a public hearing for the next meeting and agreed the formal vote on designation will take place after that hearing. Heather confirmed the property should be marked contributing on the inventory form. The commission also requested that survey maps be included in the application package to assist owners who may later pursue historic tax credits.
Next steps: the commission will hold the public hearing at its March meeting and then consider a designation vote afterward; staff will finalize the application packet and confirm public-notice details.
