MNPS honors Emmy‑winning students, academic athletic teams and newly nationally certified educators

Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools recognized student creators and educators for awards and certifications, celebrating an Emmy for a student film and broad district achievements in academics and professional certification.
During the meeting Dr. Battle honored the student team behind Every Student Known, a multimedia anthem and 9‑minute documentary created during a four‑day songwriting camp; she said the project “won the Emmy for documentary, cultural for every student known.” Director Franklin Willis introduced the student singers and the Spanish‑language version of the anthem, noting the project involved students from multiple schools and that the Spanish version reflects the district population where “nearly 40% of our students speak” Spanish.
The board also recognized more than 80 athletic teams from the district’s 15 high schools that won the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) academic achievement awards for the fall semester — teams that collectively met a GPA threshold of at least 3.00 for the semester. Dr. Battle listed participating high schools and enumerated sports represented across the district, including basketball, bowling, cheer, cross country, football, golf, soccer, volleyball and wrestling.
District staff additionally celebrated new professional certifications: six speech‑language therapists who earned ASHA certificates of clinical competence, four new nationally certified school psychologists (NCSP), multiple nationally certified counselors (NCC), and 14 national board certified teachers (five newly certified and nine who completed maintenance of certification). Dr. Battle noted that only eight educators across Tennessee achieved National Board certification in 2024 and MNPS had five of them.
The recognitions highlighted collaboration among students, educators, the VAPA (visual and performing arts) team and community partners. Board members and the audience applauded the students and staff; district leaders requested awardees come forward for certificates and district photographs.
