Family and Children Services reports December caseloads, investigations and placements

The county’s Family and Children Services reported screened-in child protective reports, response times, and placement counts including foster care and kinship care; staff also described several high-cost placements.
Theresa, who presented the Family and Children Services report, told the Human Services meeting that December’s activity included 16 child-protective referrals (six screened in for investigation and 10 screened out).
Year-end totals presented in the packet showed 86 screened-in reports and 23 screened-out reports. Theresa said screened-in allegations included two physical-abuse allegations, multiple neglect concerns and one alleged emotional-damage case.
She reported response-time statistics: three initial face-to-face contacts the same day, one within 24–48 hours and two within five business days. Service reports included 13 cases offered voluntary services and nine kinship-care arrangements.
Placement counts cited for the period included 29 children in foster-home settings, 26 in kinship care, one in a group home, four in residential care, four in targeted safety and six in CST (community support team) placements. Theresa also described high-cost placements handled by the county, naming providers and daily rates that appear in packet notes. For example, two placements at Rawhide were described at $772 per day each and another placement at a different facility listed at $712 per day.
Theresa said the department added two interns and completed initial assessments that closed most cases listed for December. There was no formal action recorded on the CPS report; it was provided as a departmental update.
