County staff to extend Saturday landfill hours this year, longer hours planned next budget year

Harnett County officials said at the Feb. 20 work session that they will extend Saturday hours at the county landfill by two hours (to 2 p.m.) in the current budget year without hiring additional personnel, and will seek funding in next year’s budget to further extend hours to 4 p.m.
County staff said they are working with operations staff (identified as Chad and Mike in the transcript) to implement the change as soon as possible. Commissioner Jaggers had raised concerns that residents who work during weekdays find it difficult to access the landfill during standard weekday hours; extended Saturday hours aims to improve access for those residents.
The move is intended to be implemented promptly at no additional staffing cost during the current budget year, with the county exploring budget options for a permanent longer Saturday schedule next year.
