Committee consolidates voter-list requirements into TCA section, advances HB 722

House Bill 722 moved out of the Elections and Campaign Finance Subcommittee on Feb. 25 after sponsor Representative Warren said the bill would eliminate redundancy in state law by placing National Voter Registration Act (NVRA)–aligned list maintenance provisions under a single section of the Tennessee Code Annotated.
“House Bill 722… seeks intended to eliminate the redundancy and replace the statute with the current NVRA guidelines, placing them in the TCA that deals with voter lists, roll maintenance,” Representative Warren said.
Committee members asked whether the changes reflect current practice. A staff witness identified no objection and said the bill more cleanly organizes requirements already being followed, the sponsor said. The subcommittee voted 7-0 to advance HB 722 to the State and Local full committee.
Votes at the hearing: 7 ayes, 0 nays. The bill now goes to the full committee for additional consideration.
