Commissioners approve expedited annexation of 39.221 acres from Pittsfield Township to City of Oberlin

The Lorain County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 25 approved an expedited Type 1 annexation of 39.221 acres from Pittsfield Township to the City of Oberlin. The board recorded a motion, a second and unanimous “aye” votes to approve the petition; no objections were reported by county staff.
John Clark, the agent listed on the petition for the City of Oberlin, addressed the board and described the annexation as the third phase of sequential annexations of land the city purchased in Pittsfield Township. Clark said the annexation is covered by an existing intergovernmental annexation agreement dating from February 2006; under that agreement the township does not object to annexations within the identified district in exchange for revenue-sharing on income and property taxes for projects in the area.
County staff said the parties have been in positive discussions and that the agreement is being reviewed with a view to updating terms related to land use and revenue sharing. Clark told the board the annexation is not contested and that the paperwork shows the agreement covers the property in question.
Commissioner Moore moved to approve the annexation and the motion received a second; Commissioners recorded unanimous approval for the item. County staff said this action completes the sequence for the parcel described as the third phase of the city’s purchase in Pittsfield Township.
