Quincy License Board approves one-day liquor licenses, special-event permits and several license transfers

The Quincy City License Board on Feb. 25 voted unanimously to approve a series of one-day liquor licenses, special-event permits and several license transfers and new licenses, including permissions for the New England Free Jacks' 2025 home games at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The approvals included one-day liquor licenses for the New England Free Jacks for home matches at Veterans Memorial Stadium, 850 Hancock Street, on March 15; April 6, April 12, April 20, May 4, May 10, May 24 and June 1; potential playoff dates June 15, June 21 and June 22; plus related single-day events in March, April and June. Alex Grayland, representing the Free Jacks, told the board that the listed dates “are all correct.”

Why it matters: the permits allow alcohol service at multiple large events at a city stadium and authorize temporary operations that affect public safety, traffic and city services. The board approved organizers' plans for security and TIPS/TIPS-equivalent training for servers where noted.

Other approvals at the hearing included special-event permits for annual races and community wellness events, a one-day market alcohol vendor, a route passage for a regional charity ride, a common victualler license for a Washington Street restaurant, a new off-premises package-store license, and a restaurant license transfer. Board members also voted to move the September license-board hearing from Sept. 2 to Sept. 9 and accepted the minutes of the Jan. 28 meeting.

- New England Free Jacks (one-day liquor licenses): Licenses cover home games at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the dates listed above. Alex Grayland confirmed the dates and said potential playoff dates were included as a precaution. No additional conditions beyond standard insurance and server certification were recorded.

- Bill Dunn Jr. Memorial Road Race (special-use permit): Approved for Saturday, June 28, to benefit the Bill Dunn Jr. Memorial Scholarship. Organizer Bill Dunn briefly addressed the board; the board noted the usual public-safety coordination.

- Clifford Marshall and Point Webster PTO Family Fun Run and Wellness Expo (special-use permit): Approved for Saturday, May 31, 9 a.m.–noon. Organizers said the event typically draws about 400 participants, uses the same route as last year, and relies on donated snacks and school-district support rather than food trucks.

- Bridal Rock Brewing / White Pine Market (one-day liquor vendor): Approved for Saturday, March 1, noon–6 p.m., at Boston Harbor Studios, 260 Victory Road, Marina Bay. The vendor said it would provide insured service and TIPS-certified staff; organizers did not expect food trucks.

- Best Buddies Challenge (special-use permit / route notification): Approved for Saturday, May 31; riders are expected to be in Quincy between about 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.

- Quincy International Foods Inc. (common victualler license): Approved for premises at 527–529 Washington Street with proposed manager Saleem Mahama and proposed hours 11 a.m.–9 p.m., seven days a week. The applicant noted the inspector had advised the business to obtain the license.

- MAA Abadi Corporation, doing business as Welcome Market (off-premises package-store wines and malt beverages license): Approved for a 2,385-square-foot retail convenience store at 279 Willard Street, Suite 2; the applicant indicated experience operating multiple convenience stores.

- Bravo Quincy Inc., doing business as Bravo Pizzeria (transfer of wines and malt beverages restaurant license): Approved the transfer for the premises at 531 Washington Street with proposed manager Nick Patel; the business is operating as before with alcohol served on premises.

Administrative actions

The board voted to change the September license-board hearing date from Sept. 2 to Sept. 9 to avoid conflict if a city preliminary election is held Sept. 2. The board also waived the reading and approved the minutes of the Jan. 28 meeting and adjourned the hearing.
