Hardin County commissioners appoint Kathy Brown to fill Justice of the Peace Precinct 6 vacancy

The Hardin County Commissioners Court on Feb. 21 appointed Kathy Brown to fill the vacancy in the office of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 6, effective March 1, 2025, to complete the unexpired term following the early retirement of Jacqueline Warner.
The appointment came after commissioners reviewed applicant materials and counts of support correspondence submitted on behalf of applicants. County staff reported the three highest support tallies were Kathy Brown (74), a candidate identified as Gedry (46), and Amy Enloe (39). Commissioner Young moved to appoint Brown; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
Why it matters: the justice of the peace handles local magistrate duties, truancy and small claims matters in Precinct 6 until the next election. Filling the post ensures court services and dockets can continue without interruption.
Commissioner Young thanked the applicants and noted several candidates had community backing; the county judge asked county human resources to distribute each applicant’s support count to the applicants after the meeting and to include the counts in the minutes. After the vote the judge congratulated Brown and expressed appreciation to all who applied.
No public comment opposing the appointment was reported on the record and no amendments or conditions were placed on the appointment.
The county clerk’s office will reflect the appointment in minutes and HR was asked to email all 10 applicants their individual support counts as recorded by county staff.
