County receives three applications to fill planning-and-zoning vacancy; commission aims to appoint within weeks

Christian County staff told commissioners on Feb. 5 that one planning-and-zoning board member has stepped down for family reasons and the county has received three applications for the vacancy. Commissioners discussed outreach and transparency and asked staff to post term expirations on the county website so the public can see openings in advance.
A staff member said the resigning commissioner "has been on the Commission for a very, very long time" and that applicants are being held on file until the commission interviews and selects a replacement. The staff member said there is no official resignation letter yet and that the departing member likely will serve until a successor is appointed.
Commissioners asked for a timely appointment so the new member could be prepared for planning-and-zoning’s next meeting. "I'm gonna shoot to have a selection within the next 2 weeks at the latest," one commissioner said. Staff said the statutory framework gives the commission appointment authority and that the county will continue to accept applications for future openings.
No formal vote was taken. Staff will review applications, make outreach calls if commissioners request them, and return with an appointment when the commission is ready to act.
