Board approves owner's‑representative services as gym infill and new high school move forward

The Monroe Local Schools Board of Education approved an agreement with MCS and Associates to serve as the district’s owner’s representative for both the gym infill project and the planned new high school.
“...they work for us, not the architect, not the construction manager, not OFCC,” Superintendent Robert Buskirk said in explaining the role MCS will play. The board approved the owner’s‑representative service by roll call; four members voted aye and none opposed.
Board members and administrators discussed timing for the gym infill project’s guaranteed maximum price. Buskirk said final GMP pricing should be ready in mid‑March and that the board may call a special meeting during the week of March 17–20 to approve the GMP so demolition and work are not delayed. He said the infill project remains on schedule to be completed in December of next year so classes can move to the new space second semester.
The district also reported progress on the new high school procurement: five architect submissions were received for the request for qualifications and architect interviews are scheduled for March 14. The RFQ for the construction manager-at-risk was set to close March 3 with interviews April 17. Buskirk said the district expects the selected architect and construction manager to move quickly into the design phase once chosen.
Approval of MCS and Associates was moved and seconded by board members during the meeting; the motion passed on a unanimous recorded vote.
