The Chaska City Council on Feb. 24 adopted two resolutions to vacate portions of drainage and utility easements on Lots 2 and 3, Block 2 of the Sconce Woods subdivision.
City staff said the easements were established in preliminary plans but, after final grading and stormwater routing for the development were completed, the public drainage flow was directed to the street rather than through the easement corridors. As a result, the easements are no longer needed for the originally intended public utility or overland flow function.
Nut graf: Staff recommended vacating the redundant easement strips so the private lot owners may have full use of their rear yard areas for typical improvements such as pools or additions. No members of the public came forward to comment at the public hearing.
After a brief public hearing with no speakers, the council adopted resolution 2025‑17 (Lot 2) and resolution 2025‑18 (Lot 3). Motions were made and approved by voice vote; the actions carry conditions and a record of the easement vacations will be recorded as a matter of public record.
Ending: The city will record the easement vacations and notify title and utility records; staff said the step will allow lot owners greater use of rear-yard space without affecting public drainage design.
