Peoria County staff presented the county’s January workforce report and an updated vacancy snapshot to the Operations Committee on Feb. 25 and reviewed the county’s strategic-plan update ahead of a March 22 strategic planning session.
Angela (last name not specified), a county staff member who presented the workforce report, told the committee the packet contains three sections: applicants and new hires; employee demographics compared with the most recent census; and separations. She said the report compares January figures with 2024 data and noted she had updated the materials in the packet.
On the vacancy snapshot, staff said the report had been updated from figures published in the 2025 budget book. Angela drew the committee’s attention to the coroner’s office and the courts, where the number of filled and vacant full-time equivalents (FTEs) now exceeds the budgeted FTE totals shown in the budget book. She said those positions are funded and the difference reflects changes made after the budget vote; staff will coordinate with finance to confirm funding when hires occur.
Mr. Sorrell, a county staff member who presented the strategic update, said the committee’s goal numbers begin on page 13 of the packet and reminded members that the board will hold a strategic planning session on Saturday, March 22 to review completed items and consider new work-plan items. He said the meeting location had not been confirmed and staff would email the updated packet and a revised meeting request when details are set.
Committee members asked for access to the plan in advance. Dr. Blair and Member Williams asked whether the plan was available on committee iPad folders; staff said it is on the county website and that they would email the document ahead of the March 22 session. The committee chair asked members to review completed items in operations and to meet with staff in advance if they had questions.
These items were informational; no committee votes were taken on the workforce or vacancy reports during the meeting.
