Commissioners approve on-call roof contract, capital-improvement policy and interim humane-society extensions

The Cowlitz County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of consent-agenda items covering routine contracts, policy updates and short-term contract extensions.
On contracts, commissioners approved an on-call roof-repair and maintenance services agreement with Weather Guard with a stated not-to-exceed total of $100,000. County staff explained on-call contracts allow the county to bypass a longer emergency resolution process by pre-vetting vendors for services that are needed episodically.
The board also adopted an update to the county’s capital improvement and preservation policy. Under the revised policy, staff said the county will set aside $250,000 to allow departments to submit and score project requests for capital repairs and preservation work.
Commissioners noted two short-term contract extensions with the sheriff’s office related to the county’s contract with the humane society after Clark County purchased the shelter; staff described the extensions as temporary measures to bridge negotiations that had run past the county’s prior contract expiration.
The consent agenda passed on voice votes. Commissioners called for public questions and none were raised during the consent portion of the meeting.
