Homewood City Council approves routine surplus sales, contracts and sets public hearings

At its Feb. 24 meeting the Homewood City Council approved a package of routine resolutions and contract authorizations, set a March 10 public hearing on economic development and authorized multiple city-sponsored events and agreements.
The Homewood City Council on Monday approved a set of routine resolutions and contracts including surplus property sales, a resurfacing resolution with ALDOT, an investment-advising contract and scheduling of public hearings and city-sponsored events.
The council voted unanimously on most items. Actions approved included declaring certain city property surplus and authorizing the sale of two Harley-Davidson motorcycles; approving a change order on the Kenilworth stormwater project (see separate article); authorizing the mayor to execute an ALDOT resurfacing resolution for U.S. 280 (Rosedale Drive); authorizing a contract for investment advising with Porter White; and approving a city advertisement in Homewood Magazine.
The council also approved use of City Hall Plaza for spring and fall tournaments hosted by the Birmingham Social League; cleared a city-sponsored April 12 concert on the plaza presented by the Homewood Arts Council; authorized the mayor to sign the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) agreement; registered no objection to an ABC special-event retail license for the fourth annual Crawfish Bowl at the Battery parking lot; approved city vouchers for Feb. 11–24; adjusted March meeting dates and set a March 10 public hearing for the proposed Piggly Wiggly economic development item.
Most items were recommended by committee votes reported during the meeting and carried on the council floor without extended debate. Roll-call tallies recorded in the meeting minutes show unanimous (10–0) approval for the majority of resolutions listed above unless otherwise noted in separate articles.
