Hickman County adopts resolution urging preservation of Duck River and tributaries

Hickman County commissioners unanimously adopted Resolution 25-09 on Feb. 24, a resolution tied to House Bill 0205 and Senate Bill 0278 that the sponsors said are intended to help preserve the Duck River and various creeks.
Commissioner Mayberry told the board the Duck River is among the most biodiverse rivers in North America, runs through the county and supports the local environment and economy. Commissioner Collins said the county should “send a message” that its waterways be left alone and urged fellow commissioners to support the resolution. The sponsors were recorded as Commissioner Mayberry and Commissioner Collins.
The roll-call vote recorded 13 yes and one absent; the chair asked whether any commissioner wished to change their vote before declaring Resolution 25-09 adopted.
