The Campbell County Fiscal Court approved entering into contract addendum No. 2 with the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky (ESNKY) to provide additional funding for a temporary overflow cold shelter in Campbell County, authorizing up to $40,000 in reimbursement-based funding effective Jan. 17, 2025.
Administrator Matt told the court that the county had previously approved $20,000 for the program and that unusually cold weather and operational needs led to the shelter being open for 14 straight days, exhausting the original allocation. He recommended making up to $40,000 available from unprogrammed mental health tax funds to continue the reimbursement arrangement for staffing and supplies. “The shelter was open 14 straight days,” Matt said.
The contract addendum continues the arrangement under which the county approves opening the shelter each night and ESNKY seeks reimbursement for eligible expenses; the administrator said the county is not guaranteed to spend the full $40,000 but the authorization allows staffing and operations to continue as needed. The court approved the addendum by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
