County signs chip-and-seal contract, approves geotechnical work for Bridge 527A; Buckeye project to resume in February

Montgomery County commissioners authorized several public-works actions on Feb. 3, including signing a chip-and-seal contract at 49 cents per square yard, approving $12,500 in geotechnical engineering services for Bridge 527A, and noting that the Buckeye contractor's winter shutdown was approved by the Kansas Department of Transportation with planned resumption in mid-February.
Brandon, the county public-works representative, asked the board to authorize the notice to proceed and to accept the Circle C/RPS chip-and-seal agreement at the negotiated 49'per-square-yard rate; the board approved signing on the county's behalf. Commissioners discussed whether the work would occur in residential areas and were told the project would traverse the City of Liberty and was not expected to be heavily residential.
The board also approved a proposal for geotechnical engineering services to support the KDOT PS&E (plans, specifications and estimate) stage for Bridge 527A, northwest of Bolton. The geotechnical consultant estimated a three- to four-week schedule to begin work after authorization and presented a $12,500 fee for the scope needed to progress the project toward the planned letting in November.
Public-works staff reported that the Buckeye contractor had requested and received KDOT approval for a winter shutdown; staff said work is slated to resume in mid-February when weather allows, and that remaining tasks are mainly asphalt and some guardrail near the bridge.
Commissioners additionally authorized county signatures on the chip-and-seal notice to proceed and the geotechnical agreement and instructed staff to provide copies for the county clerk and the commission file.
