Middle-school math review and intervention guidance advance; district previews new data visuals

District staff told the Board of Education they are conducting a curricular review for grades 6–8 math and are developing districtwide intervention guidance as part of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
The math committee has paired student achievement and growth data with teacher implementation surveys to determine whether to continue with the current Big Ideas resource (with added professional learning) or to pilot alternatives. The committee planned vendor presentations to compare how other resources address identified gaps.
A subcommittee focused on intervention work reported drafting an “intervention guidance” document to reduce variation across schools in how students are identified for intervention, how supports are provided and how progress is monitored. Staff said year-end targets include completing initial guidance and training certified specialists on the intervention tool so alignment can begin next year.
Separately, curriculum staff previewed new data visuals for the board showing trend and cohort views (spring MAP and IAR results), and said the board will receive a data spotlight at the April meeting for 2021–2024 cohort trends and state-comparison charts. Staff emphasized the visuals will use spring end-of-year data to provide comparisons and that the district will take board feedback before incorporating the visuals into an annual reporting cycle.
