Commission approves ADA remodel contract and a local moving company for county building relocation

Montgomery County commissioners approved two facility contracts: a construction contract for ADA remodeling at the county—s building at 211 W. Myrtle (the former Redbud building) and a separate contract for moving the county—s furniture and equipment.
Ken, the county presenter, recommended accepting Rob Reisenhart Construction—s bid of $16,298 for the remodeling work and noted that a commercial wheelchair lift is required for liability and compliance reasons. The lift is not included in the base construction bid; the presenter said a commercial lift will cost about $12,170, bringing the total expected cost through Reisenhart to approximately $28,468. B & J—s competing bid was $24,000 for labor and materials; once a commercial lift is added its total would be higher than Reisenhart—s package.
Ken said the higher lift cost resulted from commercial specifications: "when I called them about where it'd be shipped to, they didn't realize it was commercial building ... none of the residential lift to go into a commercial building because it's the liability is on them." County staff confirmed the commercial lift would take about four weeks to manufacture.
Separately, commissioners approved a $4,200 contract with It's Your Move (Parsons) to perform the physical move on the nineteenth and twentieth of the month; staff said the company has previous experience moving the city of Independence and had no reported issues. The presenter said the local moving bid would be $7,700 cheaper than a national company.
Commissioners voted to approve both contracts; Commissioner Beaver, Commissioner Cordray and Commissioner Kulliborn recorded yes votes. County staff said they will proceed with ordering the lift and schedule work to align with delivery and moving dates.
