Ralston board receives student performances and program updates from band, Educators Rising and HOSA

The Ralston Public Schools Board of Education opened its meeting with a board-appreciation segment that included a short performance by the Ralston Middle School Jazz Band and presentations from Ralston High School’s Educators Rising chapter and the HOSA health careers chapter.
The Ralston Middle School Jazz Band — a select ensemble of seventh- and eighth-grade students — performed two pieces that it will present again at the district band festival on March 13. Jim Frederick, who organized the evening’s recognition activities, said, “Happy board appreciation day,” and introduced the students and program. Band staff noted the group has met only three or four times as a full ensemble this year and rehearses primarily on its own once weekly after school.
RHS’s Educators Rising chapter described its membership and recent activities. Mrs. Dunn, the chapter adviser, said the program anchors a career-technical pathway and that 12 students were attending the upcoming state leadership conference; she noted RHS has had national-level participation in recent years. Students Olivia Stoll and Grace Johnson described competitive events they will enter at the state conference.
The HOSA officers described chapter community-service and leadership activities, including visits to nursing homes, a blood-drive partnership and student certifications. Advisor Mrs. Prohaska introduced five officers who outlined recent events such as a health-science experience and the chapter’s participation in the state leadership conference at Creighton University March 9–11.
Board members accepted small tokens of appreciation from the student groups and thanked students and advisers for their presentations. No formal board action was required for the presentations.
Board members later moved on to routine business and other agenda items.
The presentations highlighted the district’s extracurricular pathways for music and career/technical education and scheduled competitions and community events in March.
