Goodyear Ballpark readies spring training season; opening day Feb. 22

City staff gave a spring training preview at the Feb. 10 City Council meeting, outlining Goodyear Ballpark's 17th Cactus League season and associated community events.
John Brown, assistant general manager for business development at Goodyear Ballpark, said opening day is Feb. 22 and will feature both the Guardians and the Cincinnati Reds. The season runs through March 23 and includes three night games and a special doubleheader on March 14, described as the "spring breakout game" that will feature Mariners and Guardians prospects.
Brown described several fan promotions: an opening-day throw blanket giveaway, a pint glass on March 17 (St. Patrick's Day), and a leather coaster giveaway on the season-closing March 23. He said kids-run-the-bases will return after every Saturday game beginning March 1, and "seniors stroll" events follow games on Feb. 26 and March 5. Brown also outlined resident, military and child-ticket promotions and said the Goodyear Little League will use the ballpark after the major-league season concludes.
Brown credited Parks and Recreation director Nathan Torres and the ballpark operations team with ongoing improvements, including a new premium home-plate box seating section behind home plate.
Brown invited council and residents to the season and directed listeners to the ballpark website for the full event calendar. The presentation was informational; no council action was taken at the meeting.
