Commissioners accept highway department’s annual bid recommendations and name vendors

Hamilton County’s Board of Commissioners approved the highway department’s annual list of vendor recommendations and nonresponsive determinations at the Feb. 24 meeting.
Highway staff told commissioners that bids had been solicited; when some categories produced no timely responses, staff solicited quotes from the vendors who had served the county previously. Staff recommended awards including Burbank Materials Inc. for stone aggregates, Asphalt Materials for plant‑pickup and delivery mixes, Keystone for gasoline and fuel retail, Acura Striking Inc. for pavement and road‑marking work, TruGreen and Daltons for weed and brush control, Save a Tree for tree removal, and Signal Construction Inc. for traffic‑signal maintenance. For mowing the department determined some vendors nonresponsive and recommended awarding contracts to Bridlevue Landscapes.
Commissioners discussed bid solicitation procedures and confirmed that staff had reached out to prior-year vendors when initial bid categories drew no responses. A motion to approve the recommendations "as submitted" carried by roll call. Highway staff noted the approvals will allow scheduled work and federally funded final-inspection items to proceed.
Ending: The highway department indicated it could cancel the March 7 meeting and will proceed with vendor onboarding and project scheduling following the approvals.
