He advised that the district continue to enforce its existing nondiscrimination policies (policy 4.11.1 and 4.11.2) and state statutes addressing bullying and harassment.
Board discussion included an extended statement from Board Member Nick Ross, who described his own perspective as a nonbinary individual and urged the board to be careful in public messaging; Ross and other board members emphasized that pausing the 4.11.4 text does not remove protections for students. The board then voted to adopt the amendment language directing staff to pause 4.11.4 and rely on the 2020 Title IX procedures; the roll‑call vote passed.
