Superintendent to present options on community education and Edgewood Early Learning Center after parents and staff raise concerns

Trustees acknowledged receipt of a large list of written correspondence from community members expressing support for the Edgewood Early Learning Center and childcare programming; President Buffett read the list of senders into the record (names recorded in the minutes). During public comment, parent Luke Bowman (6744 English Oak Drive) urged the district to meet in person with Edgewood staff and parents, described staff distress and high emotion at the center, and asked the board and administration to “trust the people that you've hired” and to hold a joint conversation at Edgewood with parents and staff. Bowman said parents were searching for alternatives after the initial timeline was announced and urged the board to consider incremental or collaborative solutions instead of immediate closure.
Superintendent Hood said the administration will present options — including the possibility of maintaining infant/toddler rooms if feasible — and noted the district will bring enrollment, tuition and staffing data, wage impacts and proposed remedies to the board. He repeated that no final action has been taken and said the board will receive the options at the next meeting for discussion and possible follow‑up.
No final decision on the Edgewood program was made at tonight’s meeting.
