Board schedules joint meeting to review draft Carroll County land-use ordinance

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors agreed to meet jointly with the planning commission on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. to review a draft land-use ordinance prepared by staff and the planning commission.
Ronald Newman, who presented the item to the board, said the planning commission requested a joint meeting to discuss whether the commission and the board are headed in the right direction and to gather questions or suggested changes. Newman said the joint meeting is intended for discussion only and is not a public hearing; the board must post notice of the meeting on the county website, at the administrator’s office, and on the bulletin board.
Supervisors asked staff to prepare large printed zoning maps for board members so they can review parcel-level zoning (residential, agricultural, industrial, commercial) before the Feb. 20 work session. Board members noted the ordinance’s treatment of tax-assessed land categories and the scale of the ordinance’s coverage; staff referenced roughly 34,000 county parcels in discussion and agreed to provide parcel maps aligned to the proposed ordinance.
The planning commission’s draft and the joint meeting are intended to let supervisors identify issues or suggested edits before any formal public hearings are scheduled.
