The Palatka City Commission appointed Avery Hunter to the general employees pension board and administered the oath of office during a special meeting Monday.
During the meeting a commissioner moved to add an emergency appointment and then moved to appoint "mister Avery Hunter to the attention board effective immediately." The motion was seconded and approved by the commission. The appointee was then sworn in publicly.
The swearing-in included the pledge to uphold the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Florida and to fulfill the duties of the "general employees, pension board member," ending with the traditional "so help me God." After the oath several commissioners congratulated Hunter on the appointment.
The appointment was processed immediately under the emergency item the commission approved earlier in the meeting. The City Clerk will record the appointment and update the pension board roster as required by city procedure.
