Police, fire, engineering and other city departments report operations, equipment and project updates

At the Feb. 24 Board of Works meeting Lebanon department heads reported recent calls for service, training, capital purchases and project timelines including a new ladder truck delivery, regional drainage outreach with CSX, Grant Street construction engineering proposal and an April 8 time-capsule event at the library.
Department heads at the Lebanon Board of Works meeting on Feb. 24 delivered routine updates on service activity, training and capital projects.
Police Chief Morgan reported the Lebanon Police Department had responded to 727 calls for service since the prior meeting and made 18 arrests for offenses including operating while intoxicated (5), warrants (4), domestic battery (2), possession of meth (2), possession of marijuana (1), driving while suspended (2), HTV (1) and theft (1). The department filed 45 crash reports in the same period. Chief Morgan also identified officers attending field training and interdiction courses in February.
Fire Chief Batts said Lebanon Fire responded to 116 emergency calls, logged 302 training hours, completed 24 commercial inspections and participated in mutual-aid deployments. Deputy Chief Matt Young and Engineer Brandon Beasley completed the final inspection on the department's new ladder truck in Ocala, Florida; delivery is expected in early April and firefighters will undergo an extensive training and driving program before it enters service.
Parks and Recreation Director John Mester reported maintenance work on the Big 4 Trail and upcoming construction on Memorial Park pickleball courts; two full-time maintenance hires will start in early March. Mester also noted community events such as a snowman contest and spring break story time programming.
Engineering (Kevin) provided multiple project updates: the regional drainage conveyance project is awaiting CSX cost-estimating input; a Christopher Burke proposal for final design and permitting on a regional detention project totals $124,700 and estimated construction costs could be in the $3,000,000 range; Grant Street phase 2 construction engineering proposal was received at $383,400; Beck Street demolition has asbestos testing underway; 2025 resurfacing preconstruction was held with concrete work to begin soon; and CSX is scheduled to complete two crossing-arm installations on March 6 in the LEAP District.
Planning staff (Christie Spencer) reported 105 inspections, 34 building permits (including two single-family home permits), 75 code-enforcement activities and 622 new complaint investigations largely related to snow-and-ice removal.
Public Works Director Scott Calvert said crews used 315 tons of salt over three snow events, placed 7 tons of cold mix for potholes, and will receive new crosswalk controllers at Camp Street; the 2025 limb-and-brush schedule will be finalized for the March meeting.
Communications Director Joe LePage invited the public to the "2024 eclipse 1 year later" time-capsule dedication at the Lebanon Public Library's Ralph W. Stark Heritage Center at 3:08 p.m. on April 8, and said the restored Lebanon story booth will be unveiled during Boone County Summerfest.
Each department took questions from the board; no votes were required for these reports.
