Committee clears bill allowing green lights on RDOT vehicles for visibility in adverse conditions
Summary

Senator Kroll introduced House Bill 1475 to the Senate Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee, explaining that Arkansas Division of Emergency Management previously approved use of green lights on Arkansas Department of Transportation vehicles for winter-weather and fog operations.
Kroll said green lights produced "much higher visibility, making it safer for the ... workers," and noted that several other states have adopted similar rules. Jared Wiley, director of the Arkansas Department of Transportation, signaled support during committee remarks.
Senators asked whether the practice was becoming a national standard; Senator Johnson invited Wiley to confirm and Wiley nodded that the direction was consistent with national practice. No members of the public testified against the bill. A motion to "do pass" was seconded and the committee approved HB 1475 by voice vote.
