Franklin Park promotes two officers; borough police accreditation review expected in April

Franklin Park Borough Council on Feb. 19 approved two personnel promotions in the police department and administered oaths to the promoted officers.
The council moved to promote Anthony F. Starko to the position of police sergeant effective Feb. 23, 2025, at a salary of $127,046.40. The motion passed. Starko took the oath of office immediately after the vote.
Council also approved a promotion effective Feb. 23, 2025, with a stated salary of $119,350.40 for the position read aloud during the meeting; the oath was administered to Brian W. Blakely. Both promotions were approved without recorded roll-call tallies in the public record other than unanimous vocal assent.
Separately, the council received an update on an accreditation review. Borough staff reported that accreditation reviewers visited the station Jan. 13–14, interviewed patrol officers and supervisors, and “recommended to the board the department be accredited,” with a borough vote expected in April.
What was not changed: The council did not alter department policy at the meeting; the accreditation recommendation remains subject to the board’s formal vote in April.
At the meeting, council members and the mayor offered congratulations to the promoted officers and praised recent department work and community policing activities.
