Solanco reports small drop in on-campus enrollment; district online program posts gains

District administrators told the board Feb. 24 that on-campus enrollment fell just below 3,000 students but Solanco’s own online program (SVA) grew by 14 students in the month and cyber-charter enrollment rose slightly.
At its Feb. 24 meeting the Solanco School District reported a slight month-over-month drop in on-campus student enrollment and modest growth in district-operated online programming.
Dr. Dangler told the board that the district’s on-campus enrollment dipped below 3,000 students “for the first time” this year, by about 13 students; overall enrollment including students placed outside the district remained above 3,000. He said the district lost 16 students month over month. The administration attributed typical midyear movement and noted that such swings often occur in the spring months.
Administrators also reported a net increase of three students in cyber-charter enrollment for the month and a 14-student increase in the district’s own virtual academy (SVA). The district’s homeschooling population was reported at 417 students, a net increase of two from the prior month. Dangler noted the district’s goal of retaining students in its own SVA rather than having them enroll in external cyber-charter providers.
Board members asked for reasons behind movement into the district’s SVA; administration cited scheduling shifts in the second semester and students choosing SVA to accommodate work or other commitments. The board did not take action on these reports; they were presented for review.
The enrollment figures will inform budgeting and staffing decisions later in the school-year cycle as the district tracks spring enrollment trends.
