Solanco School Board approves routine funding reports, grant agreements and an $85,525 fencing contract

The Solanco School District Board of School Directors on Feb. 24 approved routine financial reports, multiple grant agreements and several vendor contracts, including a $85,525 fencing contract funded in part by a state PCCD safety grant.
Board members voted, by voice, to accept the district’s January financial reports. Mrs. Tucker presented the general fund report, saying, “For the month of January in the general fund, total receipts were $8,636,739.11. Total disbursements, $4,987,215.06. This resulted in a net increase for the month of $3,649,524.05.” Tucker told the board that of the total receipts, $6,500,000 was ESSER grant funding that the district had received.
The board approved the capital projects and cafeteria reports as presented. Tucker reported the capital project fund ending balance at $27,441,106.20. The cafeteria fund showed total receipts of $188,877.03, disbursements of $130,487.98 and a month-over-month increase of $58,389.05, leaving a reported balance of approximately $1,815,030.77.
On federal special-education passthrough funds, the board approved the Section 619 agreement (reported amount $2,700) and the IDEA Part B passthrough agreement; Tucker reported the district’s Part B contract amount for the year at $839,013.
The board approved several contracts and budgeted purchases described in the agenda. The district accepted a quote for a Navien water-heater system at the high school that includes two tanks; the existing boiler will be removed but remain district property and the new system is designed to be expandable. The board also approved the Agriculture Department service agreement to retain Carrie Cowelson to support the ag program and approved a small grant agreement intended to attract a speech-language-pathology intern, described in the meeting as a $5,000 award tied to conditions the intern must meet.
Bids to install security fencing at the Barth and Providence campuses were awarded to ProMax Fence Systems at $85,525. The administration said the most efficient price came from one contractor doing both campuses. The board noted that 50% of the fencing cost will be paid with a PCCD grant and that the project must be completed by June 30 per the grant timeline.
The personnel report, which included resignations and other routine personnel items, was presented and approved. The meeting closed its public business by moving into an executive session to discuss personnel; the board said no votes would be taken during the executive session and then adjourned after it.
