The Trussville City Schools Board of Education approved a slate of routine and operational items including audit engagement, facility and safety upgrades, completion of a high-school turf project, personnel recommendations and authorization for the superintendent to negotiate for new transportation space with the City of Trussville.
During the financial report, Jim Kirkland summarized January reconciliations and said general-fund expenditures and transfers were at 31% of budget with ad valorem revenues at about 58% of budget year-to-date. The board agreed to upload the monthly financial report to the district website after approval.
Under the consent agenda the board approved: a letter of engagement with audit firm Carr, Riggs & Ingram to begin the annual audit process; funding and approval for an updated door mobile access-control setup, paid from allocated safety and security funds; and change order No. 18 to complete the Hewitt Trussville High School baseball turf project, along with related softball stadium items. Superintendent Dr. Martin noted the access-control update is funded by A&T (safety/security) funds and said the turf completion was well received by coaches.
On personnel, the board discussed a group of announced retirements and several personnel recommendations. The superintendent noted several retirements had been submitted and that retiree recognition will typically occur in May or June. The personnel agenda included five resignations, five leave requests, multiple extra-service agreements, a transfer/reassignment recommendation and one SNA certification recommendation. The board approved the personnel section by voice vote.
Separately, the board considered a request from the city that the district vacate current transportation space on Route 11; district and city staff identified alternate space the superintendent described as “probably better space than we have now.” The board voted to authorize Superintendent Dr. Martin to negotiate a final contract with the City of Trussville for transportation space.
The board approved all items by voice vote; roll call at the start of the meeting recorded five members present (Kim DeShaise, Sherry Tolbert, Cathy Brown, Steve Ward and Jason Daniel).
