Stewarts Creek marching band and student programs honored at Rutherford Proud; Amazing Shake regional winners advance

Rutherford County Schools opened its meeting with a Rutherford Proud segment recognizing local student and staff achievements. School and community representatives highlighted Stewarts Creek High School’s marching band performance at the 2025 presidential inaugural event, winners of the Rutherford Works “Amazing Shake” competition and a set of outstanding staff awards.
Band directors and student leaders described the band’s experience in Washington, D.C. Debbie Burton, a band director, said the students were not able to rehearse in the arena and performed for the first time on national television under constrained conditions; Burton said the students regrouped and performed despite reduced space and limited warm‑ups. Michael Chester, another band director, thanked district leaders and supporters and said the experience showcased the school and Rutherford County Schools.
Rutherford Works (a program of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce) described the Amazing Shake regional contest, which trained and evaluated students in etiquette, speed networking, workplace scenarios and career exposure; 16 schools participated and 32 students advanced to the regional event. The three students who won the regional contest and will go to Atlanta to represent Rutherford County Schools at the global Amazing Shake competition at the Ron Clark Academy were named: Emily Byrd (Eagle Hall School, eighth grade), Addison Ramsey (Homer Pittard Campus School, fifth grade) and Lidi Vega (Rocky Fork Middle School, seventh grade).
The board also presented monthly outstanding staff awards selected by random drawing from nominated employees. This meeting’s honorees included Kelly Garner (assistant principal, Cedar Grove), Sue Haley (custodian, Eagleville School), Ashley Moore (math teacher, Oakland High School) and Renee Patrick (bus contractor) for demonstrated service and contributions to their schools.
Board members and the superintendent expressed appreciation to students, directors and community sponsors who supported the band trip and student career programs.
No votes were required for these recognitions; they were ceremonial acknowledgements on the agenda.
