District says Bus Patrol camera program is operational; violations already issued

Interim Superintendent Dr. Scanlon told the Wallingford-Swarthmore School Board on Feb. 24 that the district's Bus Patrol camera program is up and running and that cameras were installed on all buses and activated on Feb. 13.
Dr. Scanlon said the district confirmed training with the Nether Providence and Swarthmore police departments and that both departments have begun enforcing stop-arm violations. “All of the cameras have been installed on the buses and they are now, actively enforcing violations,” Scanlon said.
Scanlon said the citation is a $300 fine and that about 50% of the penalty revenue goes toward the technology and camera costs, with the remainder covering court costs and any leftover split between the school district and the police departments. He urged drivers to stop for flashing bus lights and warned of points on a license for violations.
The superintendent also encouraged the community to check the district website for related information and pointed to the operational start date and initial enforcement actions as part of his superintendent's report.
