City manager: teen night canceled while staff seeks alternate partners; developer announces Stack apartments near 44th & Kipling
Summary
City staff said the city canceled teen night programming for February and March because of federal grant reimbursement concerns and is seeking partners; staff also announced that Stack has begun work on an approved, long-planned apartment project at 44th and Kipling.
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — City Manager Mr. Goff told the council Monday the city has canceled the February and March Teen Night program at the Anderson Building because the partner organization, GEFCO Communities That Care, is concerned the federal grant funding that covers the program may not be reimbursable.
Goff said staff is pursuing options including a potential partnership with Apex Parks and Recreation and other alternatives to continue teen programming but warned there were no guarantees the funding issue can be resolved.
Goff also briefed council about a development announcement from Stack regarding the 44th-and-Kipling area. He said the project has been in entitlement for over a decade and is now moving forward; staff noted the developer announced a first phase of roughly 250 units, and some pad retail is planned along the corridor. Director Lauren Mikulak added the zone change and concept plan date back about 10 years and that the master developer has been working on infrastructure, enabling Stack to make its announcement.
Why it matters: Cancellation of teen programming affects families who use the Anderson Building and relies on federal grant reimbursement rules. The Stack project represents a multi-phase, long-planned redevelopment of a major corridor with potential revenue and traffic implications.
Next steps: Staff will continue to pursue alternate partners and report back on the teen program’s status. For the Stack project, staff will process remaining permits and infrastructure work through existing development channels; no new council action was recorded at the meeting.
