Treasurer: district watching state budget; board approves financial items and property-tax complaint resolutions

He said district associations — including school business officials and statewide school board groups — are active in advocacy during the process.
Kern reminded the board that the district receives about 85% of its revenue from property taxes and said the district expects final settlements from Franklin, Delaware and Union counties in March that will clarify how current-year estimates compare with actuals.
The treasurer presented a new state mechanism the district can use for commercial property tax challenges; the district will file resolutions to pursue appeals where appropriate and noted this applies to commercial, not residential, property. Kern said attorneys at Rich and Gilles will handle mailing and appeals work.
The board approved the recommended treasurer items (5b–5e), including the January financial report and the property-tax complaint resolutions, by roll call vote, 5–0.
