Sue Ann Barsky elected Horseheads Central School District board president; Christine Dale elected vice president

Sue Ann Barsky was elected president of the Horseheads Central School District Board of Education at the board’s reorganizational meeting July 1. The board also chose Christine Dale as vice president and administered oaths of office to newly elected trustees.

The board’s senior member, Warren Conlon, opened nominations for board president. Katrina nominated Sue Ann Barsky, noting Barsky’s past service as vice president and her experience on the board. Daniel Christmas also was nominated and spoke to his vision for fostering collaboration. After members spoke in support of both candidates, the board voted for Barsky.

Following the vote, Barsky recited the oath and said she would “faithfully discharge the duties as president of the board.” The board then opened nominations for vice president. Christine Dale and Sue Ann Barsky were nominated for that post. After discussion and votes, the board elected Dale and the district clerk administered the oath for vice president.

Also at the opening of the meeting the district clerk administered oaths of office to the newly elected board members Daniel Christmas, Matthew Feinberg and Tara Sheehan.

The leadership vote came as part of the district’s regularly scheduled reorganizational business; board members and the superintendent said they expected the new leadership to focus on unity and effective board governance.

Votes at the reorganizational session were taken by voice and show-of-hands per board custom; specific roll-call tallies were not recorded in the meeting minutes distributed at the session.

Board members thanked outgoing officers for their service and said they would move to settle committee assignments and other organizational business in coming days.
