Representative Healy, filling in for Representative Wheeler, said the resolution is intended to increase awareness and education for parents, coaches and school staff and to encourage schools with athletic programs to recognize warning signs and implement emergency protocols. "This legislation really just wants to bring education to parents and coaches, modeled after the efforts of Simon's Heart, which is a nonprofit dedicated to preventing sudden cardiac death in youth," Healy said.
Healy told the committee the measure focuses on ensuring schools with athletic programs are equipped to recognize warning signs and implement life-saving interventions. Representative Rubel moved to introduce RS 32,451. The motion was approved by voice vote and RS 32,451 was introduced.
The resolution as introduced requests awareness and training efforts; no requirement for specific funding or mandates on school districts was adopted during the introduction.
