BOISE — The House Revenue and Taxation Committee introduced RS 32440 on Feb. 24, a draft that would sunset the current sales tax exemption for certain information technology equipment after seven years and route the resulting revenue to a tax relief fund.
Representative Bruce, R‑District 23, said the RS would end the information technology equipment sales tax exemption at a defined sunset point and direct the sales tax revenues to the state tax relief fund administered in part by the Idaho State Tax Commission. He cited language in the RS pointing to distribution into a tax relief mechanism (noting a reference to the state tax relief fund on page 3 of the draft).
Representative Raymond moved to introduce RS 32440 and members approved the motion by voice vote. The committee did not discuss fiscal projections, specific sunset date language, or administrative implementation in detail in the oral record.
The RS was introduced for further drafting and fiscal analysis.
