Finance updates: ERP procurement continues; county manager announces retirement

Finance and administration staff briefed supervisors on an enterprise resource planning (ERP) procurement, department reorganization, grant and accounting responsibilities and the timeline for system implementation. The county is negotiating contracts with ERP vendors and expects a multi-month implementation timeline after contracts are executed; staff said full implementation could take roughly a year.
Beata (Finance Director) outlined finance department structure, shared-services roles embedded in highway, DHS and the nursing facility, and said the department processes thousands of invoices annually and manages more than 120 state and federal grants. She also described recent work on P‑Card policy, weekly cash reconciliations and planning for chart-of-accounts design for the new ERP system.
County Manager Chris Carpola told the board he plans to retire in August and that the executive committee will discuss recruitment in March; Carpola said he hopes for some crossover time between outgoing and incoming managers to allow for knowledge transfer. Carpola also updated the board on an ERP procurement status: negotiated contracts are in the works and the timekeeping component may be implemented earlier than the full system.
Supervisors asked for departmental breakdowns of funding sources; finance staff agreed to supply department-level summaries of county, state and federal funding shares to help supervisors understand exposure to state and federal budget changes.
Carpola: “I will be done sometime in probably in August… I will meet with the Wisconsin Retirement System in April to get a final solidified date.”
