A student who identified himself as Parker Besaid asked the MPO during public comment when unfunded line items in Martin County’s recently released transit development plan will receive funding and how likely those items are to be implemented in the next year to 18 months.
Beth Beltran, MPO staff, told the student the MPO prepared the transit development plan for the Board of County Commissioners, because the county operates local transit. She said the MPO is the planning agency and will incorporate the plan’s recommendations into MPO documents, but that funding and decisions about implementing the recommendations are up to the five‑member County Commission. Beltran advised the student to follow the county commission, which meets in the same room on Tuesdays, for funding actions.
