Residents press county on Port Salerno/New Monrovia sewer timeline; staff says project not yet funded

Two members of the public asked the CRA board about the schedule for extending public sewer to neighborhoods in the Port Salerno/New Monrovia area, and staff responded that the larger project is funded but specific street-level connections are dependent on additional grants and approvals.
Resident Dan Markham said he had purchased property on Kingfish on the south side of Salerno Road and asked when sewer service would be extended down Kingfish. A staff member told Markham that the overall sewer project is not fully funded to cover all extensions and that the utilities department is awaiting grant funding to lower the cost for property owners to connect.
When Markham pressed about whether the grant would be an offset to homeowner connection costs and asked about previous rollouts such as Jack Avenue, staff said Jack Avenue’s connections were enabled in part because a developer had paid impact fees that financed that extension. Staff advised Markham to contact Leo Repetti (utilities) or David Duncan (utilities) for more detailed follow-up and provided a direct phone number for Repetti.
Later in the meeting a board member encouraged residents to email county representatives about Port Salerno and New Monrovia sewer efforts. A board member asked attendees to use the county contact page and suggested writing “Port Salerno/New Monrovia sewer project” in the subject line to focus constituent messages.
Staff emphasized that until the county knows which grants will be approved and the amounts awarded, the county cannot go to bid or set a construction schedule for specific street extensions. There was no formal action or vote on the sewer project during the meeting.
