Anthony Nixon and four councilors sworn in; mayoral committee appointments set

The Fergus Falls City Council completed swearing-in ceremonies and approved the mayor’s committee and board appointments for 2025.

The meeting included an oath of office for Anthony Nixon and the council members listed on the agenda: Jim Fish, Mark Leighton, Mike Mortensen and Laurel Kildee. The oath was administered in the chamber; those taking the oath repeated the statutory pledge to support the constitutions and the laws and ordinances of the city.

Mayor Hicks presented a slate of appointments to city committees and boards for 2025. The council approved the mayor’s recommendations, which included board and committee assignments such as the Board of Equalization, business development board appointments, the Fire Department Relief Association, golf board representation, the investment committee, legislative committee representation and the HRA and Port Authority seats. The appointments were read aloud and approved by council voice vote.

Mayor Hicks asked that council members with assigned boards engage and report back on committee activities. Several council members used the new-business time later in the meeting to outline their top priorities for the coming term, including infrastructure and road maintenance, economic development, communication and zoning updates.

The council set a Committee of the Whole meeting and noted upcoming calendar items including closure for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the next council meeting on Jan. 21. The meeting adjourned after miscellaneous announcements.
