Arlington ISD trustees handled several routine and governance actions Feb. 20, voting unanimously on a set of items the board's agenda grouped as action items and a consent agenda.
Trustees authorized district participation in an interlocal agreement to pursue procurement of electricity services and delegated parameter authority to the superintendent and chief financial officer to act if market conditions are favorable. The motion, moved by Trustee Haynes and seconded by Trustee Richardson, passed 7'0'0. District staff said a prior attempt in June did not yield the desired savings and that staff would return to seek favorable windows in spring or fall if the market allowed.
The board also authorized district staff to continue efforts on a surplus property previously advertised for sale. After receiving a single bid staff deemed too low, the board authorized the superintendent to proceed with selling the property at 2424 Hedge Apple Drive when an appropriate offer is found; the motion (moved by Trustee Wilbanks, seconded by Trustee Mike) carried unanimously.
Trustees approved the bilingual notice of election (English, Spanish and Vietnamese) for the May 3, 2025 general election on a motion by Trustee Richardson, seconded by Trustee Haines; that motion likewise passed 7'0'0.
The consent agenda also passed 7'0'0; items on the consent agenda were not pulled for separate discussion.
In closed session, the board considered a grievance hearing pursuant to Texas Government Code and then reconvened in open session. The board announced it took no action in closed session but later voted to uphold the Level 3 decision of the superintendent; the motion to uphold was made and seconded in open session and passed unanimously.

What trustees said and next steps
Superintendent Dr. Smith and staff clarified the electricity procurement item is a delegation of authority only; staff will return if they find a strike price or other market conditions that justify locking in a longer-term rate. Legal counsel and staff confirmed the board's closed-session deliberation of the grievance was held under Texas Government Code provisions for personnel and consultation with attorneys; the board reported no action taken in closed session and later announced the open-session vote to uphold the superintendent's decision.
All actions recorded at the Feb. 20 meeting were unanimous. Several items (including staffing ratios covered in a separate article) are subject to inclusion in the district's 2025'26 budget documents or to further advertisement and negotiation by district staff.
