Arlington Independent School District held its required public hearing Feb. 6 on the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) for 2023–24, with district staff reporting high participation but mixed academic results across subjects.
Natalie Lopez, who presented the TAPR overview, told the trustees that Arlington ISD and the region both reached 99% participation on STAAR assessments and that the district’s overall share of students at approaches grade level or above across subjects was 67%, a two‑percentage‑point decline from 2023.
Lopez said reading was 67% (down 2 points) and math 65% (down 3 points). She highlighted growth metrics: 61% of students met their annual growth target in reading in 2024, up 6 points from 2023, and 26% of students achieved accelerated growth in reading (a 3‑point drop from 2023). For math, annual growth was 57% (down 5 points) and accelerated learning 31% (down 5 points). Social studies showed a small gain to 73% approaches grade level or above, up 1 point.
Lopez said that college, career and military readiness (CCMR) for the district’s 2023 graduating cohort was 80.9%—an increase of 13 percentage points from 2022—and that, taken together, the CCMR gains outpaced regional and state growth. She noted that some TAPR measures lag by a year; for example, the TAPR’s higher‑education performance data report on the 2022 graduating class and first‑year college outcomes.
On discipline data, Lopez said most incident rates were similar to 2023, although fighting increased by about 1 percentage point. She cautioned trustees about interpreting declines shown in the controlled‑substance columns, saying PEIMS data collection changed in late 2023 and that the apparent drop in those figures reflects different capture rather than an operational drop.
The TAPR presentation included campus‑level links and college enrollment/first‑year GPA breakdowns for graduates who enrolled at Texas institutions. The public hearing drew no speakers, and trustees closed the hearing after staff remarks.
No board action was required; staff will post TAPR materials and campus reports on the district website.
