Ohio House unanimously designates Sept. 19 as Stillbirth Prevention Day

The Ohio House on Feb. 12 passed House Bill 4 to designate Sept. 19 as Ohio Stillbirth Prevention Day by a vote of 95 to 0.
Representative Holmes, a sponsor, said the awareness day aims to “direct existing health care resources towards those that are most in need,” particularly pregnant people with low income or limited access to care. “We hope that raising awareness of stillbirth issues in Ohio will save the lives of mothers and babies,” Holmes said.
Representative Cecil Thomas, a joint sponsor, urged passage as a step toward expanding resources and specialized support for families who have experienced stillbirth. “The passage of this bill is about more than designation. It's a critical opportunity to elevate the issue of stillbirth prevention,” Thomas said, and called for ongoing work to fund clinics and outreach.
The clerk recorded 95 affirmative votes and 0 negative votes; the bill was passed and the House agreed to its title on the floor.
