A county litter program coordinator reported to the Fiscal Court on Jan. 9 that volunteers and county crews collected hundreds of trash bags, dozens of tires and assorted large debris during the past year’s roadside cleanups.
The coordinator said one 2.37-mile road segment yielded 25 bags the second time crews visited it and 23 bags plus nine tires the first time. The Speedway-to-Wayne County line segment produced 48 bags on a single pickup. For the year the coordinator said crews collected 588 trash bags, 70 tires, 2 televisions, four piles of building supplies, one skid, one street sign, one propane tank and one refrigerator door; the coordinator reported the program covered about 72.2 miles of road for the year.
The coordinator said the program ran a school outreach effort with an elementary school (materials included a coloring book and posters) and that the outreach was paid for by a grant. The coordinator described average pickup rates similar to last year and expressed hope the program would continue.
No formal county action was requested during the report; the item was an informational update.
