Perry County reports recycling totals and inmate-crew public-works activity

PERRY COUNTY — The fiscal court received an update on county recycling and public-works activity, including statistics for January and a summary of work by inmate crews that the court said have assisted with cleanup around the county.
Tanner, identified in the meeting as the recycling update presenter, reported that for the month the county recycled 16 tons of cardboard, 2,400 pounds of plastic, 200 pounds of aluminum and 2,800 pounds of other collected material; Tanner said crews also picked up litter in fields and that the county would continue outreach to reduce roadside littering.
The jailer (identified in meeting comments) described inmate-crew work in December and January: picking up garbage in the Vicco area and at the airport, clearing brush at the airport, cleaning in the industrial park, daily cleanups during the Christmas period, courthouse maintenance, work in several cemeteries (including building steps at a cemetery in Fox Creek), removing Christmas decorations, snow removal on courthouse walkways and distribution points, and water deliveries to Buckhorn, Chavis and Lost Creek.
The court thanked the jailer, inmate crews and volunteers for the work and said crews coordinate with county staff to support community needs. The court asked that the public consult upcoming agendas for additional reports.
