The Acadia Parish Budget and Finance Committee on Feb. 25 reviewed midyear general fund finances and approved advertising for bids on a 142‑acre hunting lease in Section 16, Township 7 South, Range 1 East (Perchville/Bayou Mylet area).
Finance staff reported that as of Feb. 13 the district had collected $51,009,696, about 55.95% of budgeted revenue, and had expended $49,623,499, roughly 54.18% of the budget. The originally adopted budget showed about a $600,000 deficit; staff said the district currently projects the deficit at about $400,000 and plans midyear adjustments for committee review in March and full‑board action in April.
On the hunting lease, the committee voted to authorize advertisement of sealed bids for a hunting lease on the 142‑acre parcel in the Perchville area. Staff said the parcel had been leased in 2021 under a five‑year agreement that the lessee terminated in 2023; the prior lease payment was $3,500 per year. Bidders will be required to meet insurance and other contract conditions; staff said specific insurance limits would be reviewed by the district’s legal/contract staff.
Committee members discussed that logging in prior years had reduce wooded cover on the property and that the land is used primarily for deer and hog hunting. The advertisement will run in the official journal and sealed bids will be opened; the highest responsible bidder meeting requirements will be awarded the lease.
The motion to advertise the hunting lease was made by Mister Delo, seconded by Mister Higginbotham, and carried by voice vote. No roll‑call vote or final lease award occurred at the meeting.
